Liquid Injection TXV (R448a units only)

Viper — Refrigeration System

  1. Liquid Injection TXV (R448a units only)

Viper units running R448a refrigerant utilize a thermal expansion valve (TXV) on the suction line leading back to the accumulator and compressor.

The purpose of this TXV is to inject liquid refrigerant into the suction line to help cool the refrigerant returning to the compressor.

With multiple barrels in freeze, the typical temperature of the suction line where the TXV bulb is attached should be about 35°F (1.7C). If the temperature rises too much above this, the TXV will meter liquid refrigerant into the line to cool the charge and bring the temperature down. This is done to help maintain refrigeration efficiency and prevent damage to the compressor due to excessively hot returning refrigerant.
