Solenoids

Viper — Operation

  1. Hot Gas Solenoid

The hot gas solenoid opens up to let high temperature, high-pressure gas from the compressor discharge directly into the freeze barrels for defrosting of the frozen product. The hot gas valve and solenoid and the liquid line valve and solenoid are identical components. The coil is 24VAC and has a value of 13.8 ohms. Each freeze barrel has its own hot gas valve and solenoid coil.

  2. Liquid Line Solenoid

The liquid line solenoid only opens when the barrel viscosity is such that it calls for refrigerant for that particular barrel. The liquid line solenoid is located before the AEV and the freeze barrel (evaporator) inlet. The liquid line valve and its solenoid and the hot gas valve and its solenoid are the same. The coil is 24VAC and has an ohm value of 13.8. Each freeze barrel has a liquid line solenoid.

  3. Freeze Barrel CO2 Inlet Solenoid

CO2 pressure flows from the secondary regulator behind the splash panel to the CO2 control solenoid. When the barrel calls for filling, by the barrel transducer, the CO2 solenoid is energized allowing CO2 to past thru to a tee fitting where it is absorbed into the mixed product (water/syrup) flowing to the freeze barrel. When the freeze barrel pressure is satisfied the CO2 solenoid it turned off. The coil is 24VAC and has an ohm value of 82.

  4. Water and Syrup Solenoids

The water and syrup solenoids are always activated simultaneously under normal operation. The supply voltage to the water and syrup solenoids is 24VAC, the internals of the coil converts it to ½ wave DCV. Due to this the wiring plugs must be installed correctly or solenoids will remain energized. When checking continuity on a water or syrup solenoid coil, take care. Attaching a meter’s probes as shown should display a resistance (resistance will vary depending on the impedance of the meter used). Should a meter’s probes be placed in reverse a reading of infinity (open circuit) will be displayed which is normal and indicates a good coil.
