Control Boards

Viper — Operation

  1. I/O Board plus Expander Board

The Viper’s control system I/O circuit board controls all input/outputs except for the motors. The I/O board communicates with the user interface, the motor control board and the status boards to carry out its programmed functions.

The two flavor Viper utilizes the base I/O board. And for the three and four flavor Vipers an expander board is mounted to the base I/O board to extend the ability of the I/O board to operate the additional barrels.

  2. U/I Board, LCD Display and Touch Pad

The Operator interface board, also known, as the U/I board, communicates the user’s inputs via the touchpad to the main I/O board. It also provides feedback on the condition of the machine using the LCD display. The U/I board contains the operating logic for the machine and controls the operation of the other system boards.

  3. Barrel Pressure Sensor the Board PCBA Board

The barrel pressure sensor board is located in the rear of the Viper separate from the front panel electrical box. For Viper Elite’s the freeze barrel transducers monitor actual pressures and are wired to the barrel pressure sensor board. The barrel pressure sensor board then sends a signal (open or closed) to the I/O board based on the freeze barrels’ internal pressure. Earlier version Vipers were equipped with mechanical pressure switches and the switch would be an open or closed circuit based on the freeze barrel internal pressure the I/O board would monitor.

  4. Motor Board plus Expander Board

The Motor board is used to correlate the motor power (current) to viscosity in the freezing barrel.

As the product in the barrel freezes, the rising viscosity increases the torque required to rotate thereby increasing the power delivered to the motor.

The power used by the motor is then reported to the main controller which in turn controls the refrigeration system based on viscosity cut-in and cut-out points to maintain the product at the desired consistency. The base motor board is common in the two, three, and four-barrel Vipers. For the three and four-barrel Vipers an expander board is mounted to the base motor board to extend the ability of the motor board to operate the additional barrels.
